Public health authorities, government officials and leaders in business are closely monitoring the progress of swine influenza A (H1N1), a new strain of "swine flu" that is infecting people in numerous countries. In fact, according to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), the 2009-H1N1 flu virus could produce infection in between 30 and 50 percent of the American population this flu season.
